I want to work as an after-school nanny because I like looking after and spending time with children, I find their creativity and outlook on life incredibly enjoyable to be around and a welcome break from my University work. I have a good amount of experience that allows me to be confident when working with younger children.
Throughout my life I have been surrounded by people who care for and work with children, my father is a teacher, and my mother was a childminder for most of my youth. I got my first real experience looking after primary school children when I used to help out my mother after school every day looking after children and young babies, feeding them lunch and afternoon snacks. When I helped her look after children, I learnt how to entertain them along with mediate and deal with any arguments that broke out. My mother is now a Primary school Teacher and over the summer I went in multiple times to help organise and run activities for the school Art Week.
My experience with children was furthered when I was 14. I helped out in the 4-5-year-old group at my local church where I assisted in organising activities for snack time and play. When I turned 16, I started to babysit for families in the neighbourhood that I lived in and that was where I began to be competent at supervising and entertaining children without another adult present, I babysat for two years before entering University and it was a great way to gain a little extra money.
I would like to work for After School Nanny because it is a great way for me to work alongside my University studies, whilst doing a job that I enjoy and caring for children.
